the
European Chess Union herewith announces that the European Rapid
and Blitz Championships 2002 will be held in Chania (Creta) from
29 September until 4 October.
•
Arrival day: 29 September
•
European Rapid Championship: 30 September and 1 October
•
European Blitz Championship: 2-3 October
•
Departure day: 4 October
The tournament will be organised by KYDON SPORTS CLUB and played
in the IBEROSTAR CRETA MARINE hotel (*****).This is the hotel in
which the European Club Cup 2001 was succesfully organised; it is
situated next to the traditional village Panormo, 18 km east of
the town Rethymnon.
The championships are organised immediately after the European Club
Cup which is organised in Kalithea near Thessaloniki. On Sunday
29 September there is a direct flight in the afternoon from Thessaloniki
to Heraklion (Creta).
The total prize fund is 25000 €: 12500 € for the Rapid
Championship and 12500 € for the Blitz Championship. According
to the ECU Tournament Rules the first prize in each championship
will be at least 20% of the prize fund.

TOURNAMENT
RULES
The
Rapid Championship shall take the form of a 11 rounds Swiss system
tournament. Each round consists of one game.
Rate
of play: 15 minutes + 10 seconds before each move per player per
game.
Entry
fee: 20 €
The
Blitz Championship shall take the form of a 20 rounds Swiss system
tournament. Each round consists of two games such that each player
will play one game with White and one with Black against the same
opponent.
Rate
of play: 5 minutes per player per game.
Entry
fee: 15 €
ACCOMODATION
According
to the decision of the ECU General Assembly all participants to
the European Rapid and Blitz Championship have to stay in the official
hotel. Hotel prizes are:
For
a double room: 60 € per person per day F/B
For
a single room: 80 € per person per day F/B
Reservations
have to be made by the organising committee.
VISA
INFORMATION
Players
needing visa are requested to contact the Organizing Committee before
August 15. If necessary players can contact the Tournament Director
in order to receive a confirmation of their participation to the
competition.
